We can feel at the mercy of intense emotions and negative thinking, and struggle with pervasive, reoccurring and burdensome feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, hurt and sadness.
Emotional states such as anxiety, anger or depression interfere with our relationships and the things we want to accomplish. Often, an indication of some form of trauma experience, we may feel insecure for long periods of time, disappointed and let down, or mistreated.
Understanding Your Emotional State
Working together, we will develop an understanding of your emotional state; knowing the cause of your emotional pain reduces feelings of powerlessness and increases hope that the situation can be corrected. Learning to feel or experience the emotion rather than trying to fight or suppress it allows an emotional safety valve to be created so that the energy can be released.
You will become aware of the negative thinking that accompanies the emotion, allowing us to objectively assess whether the way we are thinking and feeling is realistic or an over-reaction. The creation of a new narrative - “I am nervous about this challenge, and I have always overcome obstacles and I will sort this out too” - lessens the intensity of our emotions, and ensures a faster recovery to our challenges.
